Threshold problem

Hi

I have problem of over-signal from my pad.

I know to solve the problem just put the potentiometer in the pad and adjust the signal,

but why at other users it works without potentiometer ? what is causing this problem? I use 74hc4851n ICs

When i try to increase or decrease the threshold the signal is the same high

thanks

Different pads produce signals of different strength(voltage).
If a signal from a pad is too high there is no other way around it but to use a voltage divider if you want to get the maximum dynamic range.
Btw, Threshold doesn't have much influence on the dynamic range, it is there mainly to adjust sensitivity to light hits.

thanks dmitri

So... the only solution is put the potentiometer?

Or, if you have DIY pads, you can re-think your pads by using a reflection plate for exemple
or try to build a Roland cone replica by using different materials
or change, lose or tight, or add a ply, to your (screen) mesh heads
Or you can try different piezos (of different diameters)

But all these options are not quick and easy to build. A potentiometer might be an easier solution!

thanks for your help

But is possible to change ICs SN74HC4851N with another ICs ?

In the Alesis Trigger IO ...Roland TMC6 ...Roland Td3 or another trigger to midi/module the potentiometer are not required, but in megadrum yes, why?

Not is a problem by ICs?

Thanks

No

Not even if you connect a pad which produce 100v signal?
People do use voltage dividers with the modules you listed. E.g. look at one of the recent posts on this forum: viewtopic.php?p=16717#p16717

Update

I have tryed my snare pad in Alesis dm5 and in this module i have the possibility to adjust the gain and run perfectly on my snare pad

Can still be a problem building pad? With dm5 works very good but in megadrum i have the over-signal...

thanks

Hi everyone,

Maylord has been asking me to help him in PM, but now I have to admit, I dont think I'll be able to help him by myself!

The big issue here, is that most of his pads (if I understand correctly) are too hot. At first I asked questions about the conversion he made and the piezos he is using. Everything seemed ok so i asked him to show me his parameters, and this is where it gets a little complicated. MCT looses his pad's numbers and monitors peaks while he isn't touching anything.

Here, I'll show all the infos and the printscreen he showed me... if you guys can help, it would be nice!
i have buyed the cone on ebay, from conetriggers seller
The pad is from acustic kit, is 14" snare with mesh head
I use 27mm piezo
I have build the pad in this sequence:

mesh ######
foam cone ^^^^^
piezo --------
wooden bar _______
Now i have updated the last firmware version for my megadrum but i have the same problem, in small hit the velocity is high...
Hi kim

i have installed the MCT 1.84

but in options-bootloader tab, What should I set?

v1 standard
v2 clock selector

etc etc... ???

I have loaded my bank of program number 1 and the midi monitor show me some orange bars...without any hit

When hit the pad show me the blue bar

I have hot pad from snare pad, i see the configuration but not is the same of megadrum, for example the "Note Number" in my megadrum is number 38 and in MCT show me "disabled". . .

:?: Maylord do you have the new protected bootloader? and what exact firmware version have you upgraded to?

Oh and one more thing...
Marlord disconnect you hihat and see if you still get these orange bars.
