Broken 16 contact Connector for LCD Ribbon Cable

While trying to close the 16-socket connector onto the PCB side of the ribbon cable that leads to the LCD (part of the Synthex 2.8 kit) I accidentally snapped off one of the plastic arms  . I wasn't able to find a replacement for the connector locally.

Rather then to order and wait for a replacement, is there any reason why I shouldn't solder the cable wires directly to the PCB? I can't think of a situation where I would need to detach the LCD from the PCB.

I'd suggest you to seal the connector with glue. This way you'll still be able to plug it in and out and have the connections securely in place.
