Broken 16 contact Connector for LCD Ribbon Cable

While trying to close the 16-socket connector onto the PCB side of the ribbon cable that leads to the LCD (part of the Synthex 2.8 kit) I accidentally snapped off one of the plastic arms
. I wasn't able to find a replacement for the connector locally.
Rather then to order and wait for a replacement, is there any reason why I shouldn't solder the cable wires directly to the PCB? I can't think of a situation where I would need to detach the LCD from the PCB.
