After your tips I discovered one of the usb port pins had a cold solder joint on my jack pcb.

Its no detected fine by my computers (mac and windows) which is quite awesome.

I do seem to be having one last issue though.

I can't get any activity at all anymore triggering wise. I though it was the cable, as I was using a 80 pin HD cable just assuming it wouldn't matter so I switch to a homemade 40 pin IDC cable (mind you I had trouble making it and ran out of 40 pin connectors and broke the backs off 2 of them) but I still get nothing.

Should it matter if I'm using an 80 wire (still 40 pin) IDE cable? I was getting triggers from it from about 50% of the jacks last night before I got my usb fully up and running using the 80 pin cable.... Oh so close

Try touching pin 40 on Atmega with something metallic, like tweezers or thin screwdriver. Do you see any activity?
What if you touch pins 39? 38? 37?
Do you see any activity when you touch pins 1,2,4,5,12,13,14,15 on each of MUXers?

When you say "touch pins" just to confirm you do mean touch that single pin?

No activity when I touch any of the pins on the atmega or the MUXers... Possible a problem still with the Atmega? I don't understand what could have hurt it if something did...

Do you have a HiHat pedal controller? Did you try it? Does it produce any activity?
If no, pull all MUXers out of their sockets(of course when powered down) and try touching pins 40, 39, 38, 37 on Atmega again.
Still no activity?

No hi-hat controller yet.

With the MUXer's out I still get nothing on pin 40,39,38,37.

I will mention as a side note that sometimes when I plug it in it jumps to random menu sections. For example the last time I turned it on it jumped to Chan 29 in the menu.

When you say you get nothing do you mean:
1. VU-meters stay at minimum levels?
2. MIDI LED stays off?
3. MIDI-OX on your PC shows no data from MegaDrum?

Honestly I never checked in midi-ox yet but the VU meters are not moving at all and the LED is not lighting to show midi activity. I figured one of thoes two things would happen for it to show up in midi-ox anyways.

The LED does light up when I turn megadrum on, so the LED is working.

I also set the gains and curves and such all to max levels thinking it was just a setting issue but no effect. I didn't really expect this to work anyways, as when it was triggering (VU meter moving and LED lighting up) everything was on default.

I do have another atmega to test with... but I mean, if something is breaking my atmega chip it would likely be best to fix that first... !

1. What is voltage on pin 32 of Atmega?
2. What is voltage on pin 30 of Atmega?

Can you touch pin 40 with one bare hand and +5 with another hand? This way we're trying to pull voltage up on pin 40. Still no activity?

pin 32 is .875V
pin 30 is 1.750V

no activity when I touch pin 10 with one hand and pin 40 with the other

Power down, carefully pull Atmega out of the socket and than measure resistance between pin 30 and pin 10 of the socket.
What is the reading?
